Here I have listed 5 useful and effective ways for nurturing your plants on your absence.

1. Making A Bottle Drip System :

Making a bottle drip system is a wonderful way to water your plants effortlessly.

• Take any plastic bottle. Make sure that the bottle is enough big so that it can supply sufficient water to the plants during your absence.
• Next make several holes at the bottom as well as on the side of the bottle. The more holes you make the faster the water will emerge out.
• Dig a hole next to your plant and bury the holed bottle there leaving the mouth exposed.
• Fill the bottle up with water just before you leave your home. The water will gradually drip into the soil making your plants happy.

Note :
The soil must not be dry. For having the dry soil will soak up all the water from the bottle fast before you leave for your trip. So make sure that the soil is already moist. It will help reduce excessive water consumption.

2. Water Your Plants With A String :

A cotton thread or any liquid-absorbing string would help you water your plants on your absence.

• Take a piece of cotton thread or any other water-absorbing string.
• Push one end of the string deep into the soil of the plant-pot and keep the other end merged into a jug full of water. The string or thread must touch the bottom of the jug.
• When the soil gets dry, water will automatically be drawn from the jug through the string by Genius of Capillary Action. It will protect your plant from getting withered and dehydrated until you come back.

Note :
• The pot must not be kept into direct sunlight, otherwise the water will get evaporated before long. If possible use a duct tape to cover the mouth of the jug except the string. This will reduce the rate of evaporation.

• Do not put the jug too low from the plant-top. Use a block or a book or any other thing to keep the jug above the base of the plant. This will help the water drip down through the string. Just make sure the string is able to hold water.

3. Using A Wine Bottle To Water The Plant :

After you drink up the wine, do not throw the bottle away. Instead reuse it to water your own plants at home. Yes, wine bottle would be very conducive to watering plants on your absence.

• Take an empty wine bottle. Carefully make a few holes in the lid using a drill or nail. However, the lid must not be of a cork. For a cork will prevent the water from dripping.
• Next fill up the bottle with water and lid it back.
• Now turn the bottle upside-down and push the mouth of it into the soil next to your plant. The water will now slowly ooze out of the bottle, and re-hydrate your plants.

4. Asking For The Help of A Friend or A Neighbor :

Asking a friend or a neighbor whom you can trust well would be very helpful taking care of your plants. If the person is to water indoor plants, be sure to leave a spare key to your home.

If you know your friend or neighbor has not the same gardening skills like you have, then you can give him/her some basic advice and instructions as to taking care of the plants.
Lastly, do not forget to pay gratitude to your neighbor or friend if the person agrees to your request. Also assure the person that when needed you would also help him/her in turn. In this way you are not only using the neighbor or your friend  to help you, but also you are strengthening the relation between the person and you.
